Self Help Groups

Self Help Group (SHG) is a developmental strategy to empower women from lower socioeconomic strata of society, with micro credit facility, income generation initiatives and organizational skills. In order to fulfill its developmental goal, SAS conducts activities to capacitate the SHG members with practical skills, such as book keeping, financial management, thrift and credit activities and creates awareness about issues affecting women and children and motivates them to act collectively to assert their rights.

SAS NGO Intervention:   

  • Provides regular training to SHG women, explaining the aims and objectives of SAS.
  • Motivates women to improve their economic and social well-being.
  • Promotes harmonious living without discrimination.
  • Organizes monthly meetings and additional training sessions, including value education.
  • Focuses on building strong bonds among SHG members.

Present Condition:

  • SHGs have been successfully operating since 1995.
  • A growing number of women more than 20,000 are joining SHGs to improve their lives.
  • They no longer approach moneylender or financial institute in time of emergency but their SHGs for loans.
  • Members have experienced improved social, economic, education and equal treatment.
  • SHG members are now knowledgeable and have accessed various government schemes.

Women confidently speak out and advocate for their rights at Gram Panchayat, Taluka Panchayat, Zilla Panchayat, and state government levels.
