Training in Panchayat Raj helped elected members of village, block, and district councils learn how to govern and manage local affairs effectively. It taught them their roles and responsibilities, how to handle finances, and how to plan and run local development projects. The training also covered important laws, policies, and government programs for rural areas, helped leaders make decisions that benefit the entire community, including women and marginalized groups. Additionally, it promoted transparency and accountability, ensuring that Panchayat leaders work honestly and responsibly for the betterment of their villages.
SAS NGO Intervention:
- Collaborated with SEARCH, Bengaluru, to provide training for elected women in four taluks.
- Educated women about their roles, rights, and powers in the Panchayat system.
- Trained women on Panchayat proceedings, including Ward Sabha and Gram Sabha.
- Provided guidance on accessing government schemes and developing action plans for grants.
- Encouraged collaboration with taluka and zilla Panchayats for effective governance.
Present Status:
- Increased active participation of women in Panchayat meetings and decision-making.
- Women successfully accessed grants from zilla panchayats and the state government.
- Continuous involvement in Panchayat proceedings, with regular attendance at meetings.
- Empowered by the 33.33% reservation for women, enhancing their role in local governance.
